Koala Cold Facts: Koalas Never Drink Water?

Koalas aren't bears, but they're a bit of a mix between 🐷 and 🐻. The famous koala, also known as a tree-hugger, has a funny and adorable appearance, moves slowly, and looks a lot like a little bear. People often mistake them for bears, but in reality, they have nothing to do with each other, just like seahorses aren't horses but fish. Koalas don't drink water. They get 90% of their moisture from eucalyptus leaves. They only come down from the trees to drink water during the dry season, which is the opposite of camels. Koalas are quite picky eaters. How picky, you ask? Out of the 370,000 plant species worldwide, koalas survive on only eucalyptus trees, and not just any eucalyptus – out of the 800+ types, they only munch on around 30. Even more selective than giant pandas, they're truly living the high life. When it comes to mating, koalas take the efficient route. They emit pig-like calls or rub a bit of their scent on eucalyptus leaves while munching. When a female koala hears a call she likes or smells a scent she fancies, she heads to the male koala's territory for a date. 💦So, it's safe to say, koalas surviving isn't a walk in the park.
