The first time I watched "Hachi: A Dog's Tale" was several years ago, but when I saw the movie again in a film appreciation class, I couldn't help but cry my eyes out.
I have always believed that the human world is complex. A good friend whom you trust and rely on completely may suddenly turn against you; someone you love with all your heart may betray you out of the blue; the children you have raised with all your efforts may become disobedient and ungrateful. In this selfish and profit-driven world, a dog is the only friend who selflessly remains by your side, never abandoning you. 😫
The movie "Hachi: A Dog's Tale" tells the story of a university professor who adopts a small Akita dog, naming him "Hachi." Every day, Hachi accompanies the professor to the train station in the morning and waits for him to return home in the evening. However, one day, the professor passes away from a heart attack during a lecture and never returns to the station. Despite this, Hachi continues to wait at the station every day for the next 9 years until his own death.
The film beautifully and simply portrays the story through its visuals. The first half of the movie is filled with warmth and love as we witness the time the professor spends with Hachi. The second half, where Hachi faithfully waits for nine years after the professor's death, without interruption, brings tears to many people's eyes. I envy the intimate bond between the professor and Hachi, and I am moved by how Hachi reluctantly sees the professor off every morning and eagerly awaits his return in the evening. In Hachi's world, the professor is everything to him.
I am envious of such a bond, not only because of loyalty but also because of love. In fact, I don't entirely agree with the movie's title, "Hachi: A Dog's Tale." Loyalty, selflessness, and wholehearted dedication are what come to mind when describing the relationship between the professor and Hachi. The word "loyal" doesn't seem quite fitting and doesn't fully capture the bond and deep dependency between them.
People often say that we should look forward and move on, so when it comes to the loss of a loved one, many people may feel sad for a long time but eventually continue with their own lives. However, dogs are different. If their owner passes away, they would probably foolishly wait by their owner's grave until their own death. There is no intention to belittle or be biased here, after all, in life, there are always many things to consider. I simply feel envious and heartbroken. Even if you never come back, I will spend my entire life waiting in the world of a dog that says, "I have always thought that when I grow old, I will move to a place where there is no one else, living a life like a secluded paradise with my big dog. Because in the world of a dog, there is only me, and I can't bear to let its world be divided."
To conclude, I would like to borrow the words of the young boy from the movie:
"To the world, you may be just one person, but to me, you are the whole world."
