Let me share my experience with the expenses of studying abroad in Melbourne! 💸
🎓Tuition: If you choose to study at Monash University, the annual tuition fee is about 54,000 Australian dollars. But remember, this figure assumes you won't drop out.
🥘Eating: I usually cook at home unless I have to work overtime and eat out. If you buy groceries daily, spending about 25 Australian dollars at Coles can cover it (for instance, a 15-dollar pork portion can last for two meals, and chicken worth 4 dollars also lasts two meals, but cooking drumsticks really takes a lot of time. If you add vegetables, you'll basically spend 25 dollars). So, the monthly food expense is: 25 * 30 = 750 Australian dollars.
🏢Rent: If you opt for a shared rental near Monash University, it would cost about 200-250 Australian dollars per person per week. But if you choose a shared rental near the University of Melbourne, it will be more expensive, starting at 300 Australian dollars per week. Of course, if you're looking to rent an entire studio apartment, this article might not be for you; you could spend according to your preferences. The monthly rent is: 220 * 4.5 = 990 Australian dollars.
🚗Transport: Daily bus or train rides cost about 6-8 Australian dollars, depending on whether you're going to work or school. The monthly transportation cost is: 210 Australian dollars.
🕵🏻Going Out: Considering I work in a pre-school internship, working nearly drove me crazy. So, I go out for a stroll every week, sometimes to the coast on the west, sometimes to the neighboring town. The monthly outing cost is roughly 42 Australian dollars, plus snacks, which comes to: 42 * 4 = 168 Australian dollars.
📄Bills: ✅Phone plan: I use Optus, which is about 30 Australian dollars a month. ✅Electricity and gas: With three of us sharing the apartment, it's about 110 Australian dollars per person per month (yes, it's very expensive). ✅Wi-Fi: I have Vodafone, which is about 60 Australian dollars a month (sometimes it's a bit slow). The total monthly bill comes to: 200 Australian dollars.
According to the above calculations, the annual expense is about: (200 + 168 + 210 + 990 + 750) * 12 = 81,816 Australian dollars. This doesn’t include the cost of skincare and makeup products for the ladies. So, make sure you have a good budget and mental preparation before coming. 💰
I hope my sharing helps those who are considering studying abroad in Melbourne! Keep pushing! 💪🏻
