When you move out of the apartment, the apartment will determine the refund amount based on the condition of the room's assets.

Is the deposit paid during my booking the same as the security deposit? How is it refunded?

The deposit paid during booking is indeed the security deposit and does not offset the rent. Once the booking is completed, your deposit will be transferred to a third-party agency in the UK for safekeeping until the end of your rental period, when it will be refunded based on the condition of the room's facilities (if there is severe damage, part or all of the deposit may be deducted, so any damage should be reported for repair as soon as possible).
