Here stands the ancient and magnificent Capitole building, which is now the town hall of Toulouse. The Capitole Theater is also adjacent to the square. This historic building was opened in the 19th century and mainly hosts ballet and musical performances. Along the banks of the Garonne River, near the Carmes district, the Capitole district is also one of the smallest yet wealthiest neighborhoods in Toulouse.
