Andrew Dismore, a Conservative Party member of the Hammersmith and Fulham Council, had his watch stolen in broad daylight by a thief riding a moped and wielding a machete.
From 2021 to 2022, high-value watch thefts in London have increased by 65%.
Home Secretary Chris Philp announced a consultation plan to keep dangerous weapons, including large machetes, off the streets.
Mr. Dismore told the BBC, "As we were walking away, a person on the back of a bicycle jumped off, pulled out an 18-inch machete, and came screaming towards me.
"When this happened to me in May and June last year, there were 90 incidents in Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith, and Fulham alone, more than one every day."
The attacker was sentenced to prison.
In April 2022, boxer Amir Khan was robbed at gunpoint of his £72,000 watch.
Three men are currently on trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court. All deny conspiracy to commit robbery.
