Refund Policy
Cancellation Policy: Within 14 days without signing a contract, you can cancel and get the deposit back, but rent is non-refundable until a new tenant is found. All refunds require 28 days processing time. The standard cancellation policy holds the deposit from the date of receipt for booking the room for 14 days (or longer if agreed upon by both parties), giving you the opportunity to review and sign the residential lease agreement. The deposit is non-refundable (unless you qualify for our first-year student cancellation policy as described below, or if within 14 days after receiving the deposit (or longer if agreed upon by both parties), you do not sign the residential lease agreement). If a cancellation request is received after your lease agreement has been accepted (except if you are eligible for our first-year student cancellation policy as described above), you will be responsible for the rent until a replacement tenant is found. Can I leave early and get the remaining rent back? According to the residential lease agreement, you have committed to pay the full rent. We cannot refund your rent until a replacement tenant is found. Cancellation requests For Central bookings, please send your cancellation request to Journal Central to discuss your cancellation. For Uni Place bookings, please send your cancellation request to Journal Uni Places to discuss your cancellation. Refund Process Refunds will be processed within 28 days of receiving a valid cancellation request. Please note that since bonds are submitted to the Residential Tenancies Bond Authority (Victoria), the time required to receive bond refunds is not determined by Journal. The "First-Year Student Journal" understands that life is sometimes uncertain, and things don't always go as planned. Our first-year student cancellation policy offers you flexibility for advance planning, while also ensuring that if circumstances change, you won't be out of pocket financially. No Visa If before or within 14 days of the lease agreement becoming effective: You have been denied a visa to study in Australia by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA); within 72 hours of receiving the DHA refusal, you provide Journal with a written cancellation request, along with the DHA refusal, you can cancel your lease agreement without penalty, and any unused portion of the rent will be refunded. No University Acceptance Letter If before or within 14 days of the lease agreement becoming effective: You receive confirmation of non-acceptance by the University of Melbourne; within 72 hours of receiving the university's non-acceptance notice, you submit a written cancellation request to the "Journal," attaching the non-acceptance notice from the university, you can cancel your lease agreement without penalty, and any unused portion of the rent will be refunded.
